Is your child always the kid who is sharing his or her toys? Sharing their lunch with his or her friends at school? Do people always stop you to tell you how kind your child is and how well mannered they are? Well your in luck because Sprout, the  preschool TV show is on a search to find a Chief Kindness Officer.

Sprout’s Kindness Counts initiative encourages and celebrates everyday thoughtful acts while serving as a tool for parents to reinforce kindness and compassion. This year, Sprout seeks to find one deserving winner who exemplifies the Kindness Counts mission with the Kindest Kid Contest.

To enter the Kindest Kid Contest, families are asked to provide a photo and short description at sproutonline.com/kindness-counts explaining how their child helped the family, a friend, the community, an animal, the Earth or any other positive everyday contributions. The winner will be announced live on Sprout on Saturday, December 21 in a three hour programming special hosted by The Chica Show stars Kelly and Chica in addition to an announcement on sproutonline.com/kindness-counts. The programming special will include musical performances by Laurie Berkner, Dan Zanes and Elizabeth Mitchell as part of a ‘Kindness Countdown’ featuring kindness-themed Sprout episodes leading up to the premiere of The Chica Show episode ‘All of a Kind Chica.’

“Since Sprout launched Kindness Counts two years ago, we are quickly approaching a half million acts of kindness with more submissions every day,” said Sandy Wax, President of Sprout. “Empathy in kids is essential, and we view the Kindest Kid Contest as a tentpole programming event to embrace and celebrate thoughtfulness.”

ABCmouse.com is thrilled to support this very valuable initiative that encourages kindness in young children. Children’s education is more than just the ABC’s and 1,2,3’s—it’s all about learning in every way, including being thoughtful and helping others as part of a child’s daily routine,” said Doug Dohring, Founder and CEO of Age of Learning, Inc., the creator of ABCmouse.com.

The child named Sprout’s Kindest Kid will win a trip to Sprout’s headquarters in Philadelphia with their family to be Sprout’s honorary Chief Kindness Officer for the day.  They will tour Sprout and the Sunshine Barn, meet Chica and The Sunny Side Up Show hosts, and record segments about kindness, which will air in 2014 as well as be featured on sproutonline.com. The Kindest Kid entry period concludes at 11:59 p.m. ET on Monday, September 30. The general public will have the opportunity to vote on four finalists at Sproutonline.com.  For each vote received Sprout will donate $1 up to $25,000 to a national kids charity. Additionally, Sprout will make a $5,000 donation to a national kids charity in the winner’s name.

Sprout supports kindness throughout the year by highlighting kind deeds each morning during The Sunny Side Up Show with Good Egg Awards, which are given to preschoolers who do something positive to help out their family, the community or the Earth, kindness episodes of Sprout favorites during Valentine’s week and Sprout’s Kindness Counter, found at sproutonline.com/kindness-counts, which increases with each kind act submitted. Whether throwing away trash, making a new friend or giving your grandparents a big hug – all of these actions get Sprout closer to the goal of 1 million kind acts.
