What to Expect After Dark at Knott’s Scary Farm

When the doors open at Knott’s Scary Farm for a night of terror, it’s at 7:oo pm, just before it gets dark. At first, you’ll be ushered into the main entryway where a large display and a ghoulish cast of characters come out to play. Be on the lookout throughout the night, because zombies, clowns and other frightening faces will be all around you, jumping toward you and startling you at every turn.

Special Ops INFECTED

Special Ops Infected at Knott's Scary Farm

Have you ever thought about what it would be like to hunt for zombies? This new attraction, first of its kind in North America, will have you joining a mission with an infrared rifle and deployed in squads of 12. Following the command of your squad leader, you and your team must travel through across a barrel bridge, through dark caverns and thick fog and help retrieve known survivors before time runs out.

Stick together and grab your gear for this interactive challenge which gives you a chance to achieve hero status by the number of zombies terminated. There is a leaderboard at the end of your mission.

Guests should head to one of two entrances of the Camp (the main entrance – ALPHA, or Fiesta side – BRAVO) to enlist in Special Ops INFECTED. You may be given a time to return and time is limited, so get there early to participate).

The Hanging

The Hanging at Knott's Scary Farm

Without giving it away, I will note that the grand finale of this hilariously offensive show will delight the pop culture junkies in the audience. The parodies cover a wide range of films and celebrities, including Frozen, Kanye, Bill & Ted (yes, the older audience will recognize them, at least), The LEGO Movie, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Star Wars, and so much more I can’t mention. Live in Calico Square at 8:00 pm, 9:30 pm, and 11:00 pm, this is definitely for mature (or immature adult) audiences, so you may want to avoid this if you have younger children with you.

Speaking of younger children, right on the map when you enter the Scary Farm, they provide this warning:

This event may be too intense for young children. Parental Discretion is advised. Do not touch or mistreat the monsters. Special lighting effects, artificial fog, and theatrical make-up are used throughout Knott’s Scary Farm.

Also worth noting – guests are not allowed to wear costumes into the park, so even though the decor and theme of the Scary Farm screams Halloween, guests should abide by this rule and keep their costumes at home.

Elvira’s Big Top

Elvira's Big Top

Totally not a pun at all, the big top they’re referring to is Elvira’s circus performers who appear in the show she hosts. And what a host she is. With her own version of Bang Bang (by Ariana Grande, Nicki Minaj, and Jessie J.) along with a sword swallowing psycho and contortionist, the over the (big) top performances will have you dropping your jaw.

Be warned, sitting near the front may give you a close up view of the talented acts, but you may also get a little more than you bargained for. Let’s just say you may want to be prepared if you plan on sitting in the “Splash Zone” when it comes to the sword swallower.

Seriously, I was mesmerized by how amazing Elvira looks. I was in the front row and was able to see up close and personal, admittedly wanting to know her secrets for staying so slim and youthful. She looks amazing for 63!

Headless Horseman

I was not able to get a good picture, but throughout the night, in a few different locations, the headless horseman (real horse, really amazing costume) was seen throughout the night which was a fun surprise!

  1. Wow! This looks pretty amazing and really fun for Halloween! We don’t have ANYTHING like this near us, so this would be something really awesome to have available! :)

  2. I have to admit this events look so well planned, but are just too creepy for me. I FREAK out in haunted houses like tears and all so a whole park of this would put me over the edge haha.

  3. I think I’d be a big scaredy cat for this, especially being locked in a room of frights. As for the headless horseman, here on my island in Ireland they say he roams a beach at night and people have been know to hear horse hooves galloping once it gets foggy down there at night – terrifying!

  4. Halloween is my favorite time of the year. I wish I lived closer because hunting for zombies sounds like so much fun! I would definitely go!
